The sobering statistics:
What should be done to reverse these trends?
Dr. Lora Overton, OBGYN, will share statistics and articles on the severity of the problem in the United States and in Indiana. She will also report on the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists research revealing biases within the health care system that is contributing to the disproportionate number of pregnancy-related deaths among Indiana women.
Jeena Siela, Director, Maternal-Child Health and Government Affairs, March of Dimes, will talk about the March of Dimes collaboration with Quality Interaction to create a new, compelling implicit bias training for maternal care providers and health systems. It helps providers determine the degree of change that can be adopted to improve the health of moms.
Amanda Chappell. CKF Program Manager, Brightpoint, will discuss the newly created “Government Health Insurance Guide for Professionals Working with Hoosier Women” handout. The guide layouts what services are covered by Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP), Hoosier Healthwise, and Family Planning insurance plans. Amanda will also discuss coverage options for the 4th trimester and up to one year after birth.
All distinguished speakers will discuss service options and solutions, and what needs to happen in our communities and healthcare systems to improve our Moms health.
