CFA Society Luxembourg is very pleased to host the next Collaborative WIM Event and invites you to join us as we greet Sarah Maynard (Global Head, External Diversity, Equity & Inclusion of CFA Institute) and Marlene Timberlake D'Adamo (Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer of CalPERS) for a unique and interactive discussion, moderated by Paul Olschwanger, Founder and Chief Inspiration Officer of Wendell Rhoads Consulting (Board Director of CFA Society Dallas - Fort Worth).

Sarah Maynard

Global Head, External Inclusion & Diversity, CFA Institute

 Sarah Maynard is Global Head, External Inclusion & Diversity, Strategies and Programs at CFA Institute, the global association of investment professionals that sets the standard for professional excellence and credentials.

Based in London, Sarah leads a global, industry-recognised portfolio of Inclusion & Diversity programs for CFA Institute stakeholders, including candidates, CFA charterholders, CFA member societies, and investment institutions in order to champion the cause of greater diversity in the investment management industry.

An experienced investment professional, Sarah joined CFA Institute in 2019 from Majedie Asset Management, an independent global investment firm based in the UK, where she was Head of Stewardship and Client Communications Director. In the role, Sarah focused on ESG, especially governance, with a keen interest in how companies can achieve success through improving inclusion.

Previously, Sarah was Director of Career Development at CFA Society of the UK, and a founder of the society’s Women’s Network, which she transformed into the Inclusion & Diversity Network, which now has a membership of over 1,200 investment professionals.

Prior to that, Sarah was a fund manager and analyst at both an asset manager and an asset owner, for which she managed an equities portfolio of $3.3bn. She has an MA in English Literature and Language from Trinity College, Oxford, holds the ASIP and is an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development. She currently serves on the Advisory Board of Girls Who Invest, and on the CEO Advisory Council of Diversity Project North America. Sarah has also been a state (public) school governor for over a decade and a charity trustee mainly working with disadvantaged communities.

 

Marlene Timberlake D'Adamo

Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer

Marlene Timberlake D'Adamo was named CalPERS first Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer in June 2021.

She works across the organization and the Investment Office to foster a culture of equality, respect and inclusiveness. She partners with the environmental, social, and governance investment team to help identify and analyze emerging DEI issues and opportunities supported by sound investment methodology and academic research that may impact the CalPERS portfolio.

Marlene also guides CalPERS DEI framework, the employee Diversity Advisory Council, and works with the CalPERS Health Program and contracting health plans to survey and measure outcomes and customer satisfaction using race, ethnicity, and gender identity data.

She joined the CalPERS executive team in April 2016 as chief compliance officer, responsible for all aspects of the Enterprise Compliance Division. She has more than 25 years of finance and investment experience and has also provided executive leadership as CalPERS' interim chief financial officer.

Prior to joining CalPERS, Marlene served in other leadership capacities in the finance and compliance field, including managing director, senior vice president, Portfolio & Risk Management at PNC Bank in Philadelphia; chief compliance officer of Glenmede Investment Management; and vice president of the Glenmede Trust Company.

She is a former board member to the Committee of 70 and the Economy League of Greater Philadelphia, both located in Philadelphia.

Marlene holds a bachelor's degree, magna cum laude, from Seton Hall University, and Juris Doctor degree from the Beasley School of Law, Temple University.

 

Moderator: Paul Olschwanger

Founder and Chief Inspiration Officer

Leveraging 35 years in asset management, Paul is committed to helping firms achieve balance, and protect profit, by developing human potential differently. Before founding Wendell Rhoads Consulting, he led Olschwanger Partners, with a focus on complex executive searches. Most recently, while at Aon, he provided senior-level support for diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and human capital development. There he mentored over 300 investment professionals globally. He also served on numerous internal and external boards, including the CEO Advisory Council of The Diversity Project North America, and North America Inclusion Council.

Paul earned a BBA in Finance degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He completed the first AIMSE Investment Institute, Investments, and Marketing at The Wharton School, and earned a graduate certification in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Purdue University.

A long-time board member of the CFA Society in Dallas-Ft. Worth, he hosts their flagship podcast. He sits on the Texas Leadership Council of Positive Coaching Alliance, as well as the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Board for the Defined Contribution Institutional Investment Association (DCIIA). He previously served on the board of the Parkinson Voice Project and is a member of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, American Psychological Association, and CFA Institute.
