Event Overview:

Maximizing returns from timberland assets and wood-using facilities relies on a current, localized understanding of factors driving forest industry economics, markets and technologies. Wood Flows & Cash Flows details investment-relevant research and insights for the forest industry. Delivered in an interactive environment, this conference includes tangible content that directly applies to strategic plans, market analyses, valuations, and competitive benchmarking.

 The agenda uses a “hybrid” approach with “deep dive” presentations, case study examples, brief research updates and a facilitated panel of industry executives.

2019 Executive Panel Topic: "Threats and Risks to the Sustainability of the Forest Products Industry." The panelists include:

  • Sean McLaren of West Fraser (Vice-President, US Lumber)
  • Marc Walley of Forest Investment Associates (President)
  • Kristin Watts of Northwest Farm Credit Services (Senior Vice President, Forest Products)

Feedback from previous WF&CF participants:

  • I was blown away by the conference. Content was polished and informative, speakers were engaging and well-informed, and it provided a great comprehensive overview of the industry. It was worth every penny.
  • The diversity of topics covered kept conversation fresh and the event moving. An expert panel was also a meaningful part of the event in my opinion. That and the diverse subject topics bring a wide range of professionals to the event.
  • Great job. So many light bulbs went off.
  • Very informative and the flow from topic to topic was seamless and ordered perfectly.
  • All the sessions were great. I especially enjoyed the executive panel discussion and the audience participation. Great to learn from other attendees.
  • Having the entire Forisk team there was great. All of you have the uncanny ability to relate pertinent issues in our industry in a way that we can easily understand. The cases are simply the best, most worthwhile CE opportunities available. Thank you to all of you.
  • The group was the right size. This made the interaction with presenters easier.
  • Great variety [and] tools to take to my own company’s forecasting…I got specific insight into regional markets that I can take home with me and gives me direction….

During this event, participants can expect to reinforce the following skills:

  • Distinguish between major and minor factors affecting timber and wood-related costs and revenues in timberland appraisals and valuation models, and for wood-using mills.
  • Develop or identify scenarios to test economic assumptions for capital investments and company performance in the forest products industry.
  • Prepare for common shareholder and senior management questions associated with forecasts and timber market assessments.

During this event, participants can expect to gain the following knowledge:

  • Understand the current state of forest industry capital investment and implications for regional capacity and market analysis;
  • Better understand the forest industry supply chain and underlying cost drivers for wood raw material delivery;
  • Frameworks for applying forest supply modeling and implications for timberland investments and forest industry capital expenditures; and
  • Better understand the role of scenarios in driving timber market forecasts.
