About the Workshop:

Fashion designers, seamstresses, and costume enthusiasts are invited to join us at Corinthian Hall for an introduction to a famous 1920's method for producing an authentic "flapper" style dress in just one hour. The workshop is the first in a series of historical dress workshops to be hosted by the Commonwealth Vintage Dancers.

The workshop is based on the classic 1923 publication The One Hour Dressby Mary Brooks Picken and includes a brief lecture on 1920's fashion, a light tea, and a live dress making demonstration with opportunities for participants to gain all of the instructions and measurements needed to create their own dresses at home.

This method is easy enough for a beginner to make a simple costume in a few hours, but versatile enough for a more experienced seamstress to use in creating dozens of very accurate 1920's designs.  Best of all, this particular style feels so current that it's more than just a costume. Every fashionable woman is going to want one in her closet for her next cocktail reception or holiday party!

The workshop is being offered as a prelude to the Black Cat Speakeasy, a 1920's themed Halloween ball to be held at Corinthian Hall on October 30, 2010, where participants are encouraged to wear 1920's style clothing.

Workshop admission is $15 and includes a complete copy of the original 1923 One Hour Dress booklet, along with several color fashion plates from the era.
