Letting go is not just a concept.  It grows out of the trenches of our lives, the places where we struggle and strive to create a meaningful life.  There are many ways in which we are called to let go.   We must let go of loved ones we have lost.  We must let go of our childhood with all its joys, tears, traumas, victories, and defeats.
We must let go of old resentments and conflicts.  We must let go of our youthful image, of a "life that should have been," of how we believed we should be loved, and outmoded ideas of what it means to be successful.  We may have to let go of early visions for our lives and goals that are not serving us.  We may have to let go of a life we're living that is not ours, so we can live the life we were meant to live.  We are faced with having to let go of the world as it was or how we think it should be.  Ultimately, we must let go of "being somebody" and of life itself.

THE HOPI ELDERS SPEAK, part 2

There is a river flowing now very fast.

It is so great and swift that there are those who will be afraid.

They will try to hold on to the shore.

They will feel they are being torn apart and they will suffer greatly.

Know the river has its destination.

The elders say we must let go of the shore, push off into the middle of the river

Keep our eyes open and our heads above the water.

See who is in there with you

And celebrate.

In this weekend retreat we will be exploring the relationship
between love and letting go.
