The ADVANCED program is open only to those students who have successfully completed the Introductory Healthcare Careers Discovery Program in 2016.  Now that a career in healthcare is more certain, participants will engage in focused activities to prepare for their future careers.  

Elements of the Advanced Program will include:

Healthcare Provider CPR Certification – Building on Basic Life Support Certification from the introductory program, participants will earn American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification which is often required prior to entering advanced education in a healthcare related field. 

Intense Observational Experiences – While the introductory program offered some observational experiences, participants in the Advanced Program will be matched with providers in their field of interest as much as possible and spend more intense time learning with these professionals.

Research Opportunities – Throughout the ADVANCED Program, participants will have access to Holy Name’s computer lab to learn more about what they are experiencing and witnessing each day.  Round table discussions will allow participants to share their knowledge with one another.

Simulation Lab Experiences – Utilizing skills learned in the introductory program, participants will engage in simulated patient encounters to further hone technical and interpersonal skills. New skills will also be introduced with hands-on demonstrations.

Career Impact – How will participants leverage their involvement in the ADVANCED Program when applying for scholarships, honors programs or college entrance?   Holy Name’s Media specialists will support the creation of a unique video for each individual participant outlining the program and including an individual interview for each student.  Participants can use this professionally produced video brief as a unique demonstration of poise and scholarship.

ELIGIBILITY:

Our ADVANCED Healthcare Careers Discovery Program is open only to high school students who have completed the Introductory program in 2016.

TUITION:

The course is $799 and includes all educational activities, lab coat and lunch each day.

Application Process:

Registration opens on February 8, 2017 at 7PM and will be on a first come first saved basis. 20 students will be accepted for each session.
