Kids Cooking Green at the Cabot After School Program

Kids Cooking Green is coming to the Cabot After School Program in October!  We're inviting 3rd-5th graders to come and cook with us from 3:30-5:00.

Are you a kid who loves food? Join us for 5 weeks of fun in the kitchen learning about local ingredients and creating delicious snacks!

It’s a Pancake Party! We start with a basic buttermilk base and let the kids put their own spin on the recipe from there. We provide an assortment of ingredients to create unique concoctions on the classic stack! We have fig cakes, full of fiber and topped with protein rich yogurt. What about a local berry cake and Oats cake, packed full of vitamin C . Do you love things out of the ordinary? How about a Quirky Quinoa Cake, or an Aztec Warrior pancake, with a bit of spice and chocolate chips? Or maybe just a handful of locally grown blueberries and Maple Syrup suits your taste!

Magic Noodles! We’ve made a lot of Noodles at Kids Cooking Green over the years, but this year we are taking it to a new level. We are thinking about the Science of COOKING, and creating a noodle recipe that changes colors as we cook. Some call it MAGIC, but we explore the scientific reason why a Noodle might change color as we cook with it! And the best part ofthe whole class is that we create a multi-colored, delicious and nutritious after school snack!

Banana Chocolate Smoothies & hand whipped cream will make your taste buds do a Dance! The Cocoa powder gives the drink a boost of antioxidants, the banana sweetens the drink, and the hand whipped cream is a bit of a challenge for the kids! We will work with a nutritionist to examine how much sugar is in soda, and we will hone up on our kitchen skills as we practice proper knife handling, cutting and food safety skills.

Burgers, Fries and Punch! Don’t you love the classics? Farmers market beef sliders, sweet potato fries and a fruit infused sparkling punch. Not a meat eater, then help us whip up a black bean burger to cook up instead!

Eggs In a Basket: Kids just keep asking for this favorite recipe. Local eggs, whole wheat toast, something green and some spices. Sometimes, simple is the best! Oh, and kids will get to meet the chicken that laid the eggs, and her farmer!

Registration is now open and the cost of the program is $225 per student for the 5 week series. This includes instruction, and all food costs for the class.
