Witness the art of wooden shipbuilding in the Henry B. duPont Preservation Shipyard with resources from Native New England Trees, an awe-inspiring opportunity to watch skilled craftspeople perform skills made nearly extinct by steel and fiberglass.
The three main steps in the production of rope are illustrated here with the equipment that did the work. Natural fibers are first spun into yarn; many yarns are twisted together to form a strand; and then three strands are twisted together in the opposite direction to form rope. Get a first-hand look at the process.
