AGENDA

ISA CEU’s: 4 - The webinar is 3 CEUs. A link to a quiz will follow worth an additional CEU (with a minimum score of 80%)

Risk is about managing uncertainty.  The management of tree risk in an urban context requires two important elements, tree risk assessments and system-level policies.  The former is a technical process, the latter is a management process.  Each requires specific training, expertise, and inputs.  While many opportunities exist for enhancing the technical skill of tree risk assessments, guidance for arborists, tree care companies and government agencies on tree-risk management policy development is limited.  To convey the main points of system-level tree risk management, this webinar is separated into three key elements.

1:00      System-Level Risk Management - The first session will introduce participants to frameworks that provide the foundation from which all forms of risk are managed.  These include the International Organization of Standardization’s risk management process and a concept known as As Low as Reasonably Practical, or ALARP.

2:00      Break

2:15      Risk Analysis – Risk can not be managed without first analyzing a company or agency’s risk exposure.  This session discusses the four types of risk those in the tree industry are exposed to: physical harm, financial loss, loss of productivity, and loss of credibility.  This session outlines how best to quantity these various exposures and to then best manage to a pre-defined risk threshold.

3:15      Break

3:30      Risk Treatment – The final session will begin with a brief discussion on logical fallacies and how they often can mischaracterize a company or town’s tree management program in tree-related litigation.  The final discussion will focus on a multi-layered strategy for implementing a reasonable tree risk management program.

4:30      End of Session
