2018 RI Spring Handbell Extravaganza

We are proud to announce the 2018 Rhode Island Spring Handbell Extravaganza to be held at the Swift Community Center, East Greenwich, RI on April 28, 2018. Choirs and ringers* from Rhode Island and southern New England are welcome and encouraged to participate in this exciting event.

The event will feature two simultaneous and level-appropriate massed ringing opportunities with David M. Harris, Director of The Raleigh Ringers, and Area 1 clinician and conductor, Daniel K. Moore. The event will conclude with a concert presentation of the massed ringing selections, along with solo performances by those individual ensembles who choose to share their talents!

David M. Harris has been the director of The Raleigh Ringers since January 1990, when he was instrumental in the formation of the group. David studied music while earning a degree in computer science at Pennsylvania State University, and has received private instruction in conducting from Dr. William A. Payne. David was the director of the handbell program at Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church, and has served Handbell Musicians of America (formerly the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers -AGEHR) as North Carolina State Chairman and as Area III Treasurer. He chaired the national committee that planned the very first Community/ Professional Handbell Choir event, Pinnacle 2000, which was held in Las Vegas, Nevada.  David is in increasing demand as a clinician and guest conductor, and has led several national Handbell Musicians of America events.

Daniel K. Moore of Rumford, RI retired from teaching and directing the Concert Handbell Ringers of the Wheeler School in Providence, RI after 37 years. His auditioned ensembles appeared frequently on television, performed with the Rhode Island Philharmonic, and in opening concerts at national and regional handbell festivals. Recordings include Joy To the World (Empire Brass), Inside Fessiwigs (Ed Sweeney), and on several solo CD's. Dan was a charter member of the American Guild of English Handbell Ringer's committee to promote handbells in education and subsequently served regional and national AGEHR boards in many capacities, most recently as Chair of AGEHR's second Certification Program. Dan is the director of the Jubilate Ringers of East Greenwich, RI; he continues to be a frequent clinician, organizer and conductor at handbell ringing events. His comprehensive handbell textbook, "Ringing RIGHT! From the Beginning", a valuable resource for ringers and directors alike, is published by HMA/AGEHR. Dan is also the New England regional representative for Malmark Bellcraftsmen.
