Knowing and Using the Serenity Prayer

Join us as Rev. Jeff Kunkel guides participants in learning the background of this prayer, coming to terms with the vocabulary and three petitions of this prayer, and learning how to use this very practical prayer of discernment in daily life.  Our time together will include presentation, discussion, small group breakouts, journal/reflection time, music, and large group sharing.

Meet Our Presenter: Rev Jeff Kunkel

Jeff is a retired United Methodist pastor, author, and exhibiting painter.   He is a graduate of Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois, and in his work with congregations, specialized as an interim pastor with both United Methodist and Presbyterian USA churches in transition.  He teaches writing at Berkeley School of Theology, in Berkeley, California, and serves as a writing coach for individuals.   His published works include childrens’ picture books, fiction, and nonfiction.  Much of his nonfiction work focuses on Alaskan history.  Over the years, he has curated two traveling museum exhibitions about life in Alaska.  In his late 30’s Jeff majored in drawing and painting at California School of the Arts in Oakland, and most recently, has been a visiting artist at the Cedarburg Bog in Wisconsin. Jeff has been active in 12- step groups for 35 years, where he learned to practice a faith which works.   He lives with his wife, Mary Elyn Bahlert, also a retired pastor, in Oakland, California, and when he becomes annoying, she sends him to his backyard studio – where he does his best creative work!
