REI Groundwater Presentation - April 8, 2018

Sponsored by the Orange County Food Council

In this lively and participatory 3-hour introduction to racial equity, REI organizers use stories and data to present a perspective that racism is fundamentally structural in nature. By examining characteristics of modern-day racial inequity, the presentation introduces participants to an analysis that most find immediately helpful and relevant. This presentation will provide participants with critical insights about the impact of systemic racism in our society, covering areas such as education, healthcare, criminal justice, housing, and employment. Racism hides itself in our systems and institutions, and we cannot resist what we cannot see.

The Groundwater Presentation dovetails with REI’s Phase I workshop, is recommended as an introduction or followup to a full two-day workshop, and may be tailored to focus on a particular content area as needed for a particular client.

Child care and Spanish, Burmese, and Karen interpretation will be offered, but must be reserved on the registration form.

Sponsorship by the Orange County Food Council is allowing us to offer a reduced registration rate of $5 and full scholarships are available.

Any surplus will be donated to Sankofa Farmsa multifaceted agricultural entity that seeks to assist changing the food intake habits of those living in and affected by food deserts. Currently their business offers dehydrated chips, incubated eggs, farm fresh eggs, farm goods, and a summer agricultural program. The goal of Sankofa Farms is to create a sustainable food source for minorities in both rural and urban areas located in Durham and Orange County, North Carolina.
