We Have Puppets! What's Next?
Designed as a follow up to the the Level I session, this workshop is will delve deeper into using puppetry to support emergent literacy skills and address in-class issues such as shyness and aggression. Giant three-person puppets will also be explored as a way to introduce pageantry and performance to the classroom. This workshop is designed to give educators hands-on training in using both forms of puppetry as interactive tools for learning.  

Drama in the Early ChildhoodClassroom
Learn tools and strategies for creating a school skit in the classroom or on a stage. Put together a theatrical production with less stress and great success!

Moving Puppets Off the Shelf and Into Action in the Early Childhood Classroom

5-Hour Professional Development

The session is designed to give early childhood educators hands-on training in using puppetry as an interactive tool for learning.

What can I expect to gain from this workshop?

  • Identify how puppets can be used to develop language skills, and address emotional and social challenges
     
  • Develop basic skills needed to to be an effective puppeteer
     
  • Learn the unique needs and demands of different puppet forms

Participants will work with a variety of puppets, including the basic sock puppet and the more sophisticated soft “muppet-like” puppet. The workshop will alsotouch on the large three-person Chinese dragon-esque puppets.

Who should attend?  
Educators interested in exploring a new outlet for engaging their students.
