Why All The Drama? Drama Strategies to Support SEL.
Using drama strategies to support social-emotional learning and growth.
Earn a CUNY Certificate of Completion and CTLE Credit for Professional and Level III Teaching Assistant certificate holders.
Interactive Drama strategies such as storytelling, still picture and role-play are effective for modeling different points of view, building empathy, and exploring consequences within the safety of fictional scenarios and stories. In this workshop, participants will acquire practices to create space for an educational experience that combines emotional and intellectual learning.
The workshop will assist participants with building students':
- Self-awareness and management
- Social Awareness (empathy, diversity value, respect)
- Relationship skills (communication, adult and peer social engagement, conflict management, and problem-solving)
- Responsible decision-making skills
Who should attend?
Practitioners interested in exploring a new outlet for engaging their young people.
Led by Helen Wheelock, Director of the Early Learning Program. Coffee and tea provided.
