Demystifying the School Skit: Play-building with Early Childhood and Elementary Students
Devising and Play-Building from a Story.
Earn a CUNY Certificate of Completion and CTLE Credit for Professional and Level III Teaching Assistant certificate holders.
Simplify devising your class skit. Make the end-of-year performance fun for your students with interactive strategies for play-building from a story. Educators participating in this session will explore how to create a performance with early childhood and elementary students which draws on their words, movements and ideas and minimizes the stresses often associated with public performances or sharings.
In this session, participants will:
- Explore how they can use storytelling and interactive drama strategies to develop an original performance based on a storybook.
- Examine practical solutions to problem-solve the challenges of casting and rehearsal.
- Practice strategies that support character work, collaboration and vocal projection.
Who should attend?
Educators interested in exploring new tools for building performances with students that are engaging and participant centered.
Led by Helen Wheelock, Director of the Early Learning Program. Coffee and tea provided.
