2017 Application for Focus on LTBI and
Tuberculosis Nursing Workshop - Seattle

Thursday, June 22 - Focus on LTBI covers the basics of latent TB infection (LTBI) diagnosis and treatment for physicians, nurses, and other licensed medical care providers who diagnose and treat patients with latent TB infection. By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  • Describe LTBI and explain why effective diagnosis and treatment of LTBI is essential to the elimination of TB disease in the US
  • Identify key populations at risk for tuberculosis infection based on current epidemiology data to inform and prioritize populations for testing and treatment  
  • Discuss pros and cons of currently available tests for LTBI to improve application in clinical practice
  • Target LTBI testing based on risk for progression to active TB in order to achieve an appropriate risk-benefit balance
  • Describe the current recommended treatment options for LTBI and the advantages versus disadvantages, to inform appropriate use in clinical practice
  • Utilize online resource sites to assist in analysis of TB tests results, including evaluating risk for progression to disease, to augment clinical decision-making

The Curry International Tuberculosis Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. This training is approved for up to 6 continuing education hours.

Friday, June 23 - TB Nursing Workshop is for nurses, communicable disease investigators, and other licensed medical care providers who work with TB patients. By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  • List three criteria used to determine when to expand the scope of a contact investigation (CI) 
  • Describe how data management can play a role in a large CI 
  • Identify persons at high risk for LTBI
  • Describe the criteria used and method for determining an infectious period
  • Name and apply the essential steps and timelines in a CI

The Curry International Tuberculosis Center is approved as a provider of continuing education by the California State Board of Registered Nurses, Provider Number CEP 12308. This training is approved for up to 6 continuing education hours.
