AlgaGen is a marine biotrechnology company that has been in operation since November 2002.  AlgaGen ‘s competance lies in the ability to produce microalgae at hi-densities, efficiently.  Our vision is to create products  from microalgae and the oceans in general, that benefit human and animal health.  In 2003 we started working with copepods and have since created one of the largest, accessible, culture collections in the world.  Copepods are a critical food for many marine fish larvae and some adults.  Whereas some fish can be raised on other food items there are many that can only be raised by using copepods.  This collection has enabled us to have supported numerous projects to raise everything from Anthias to Tuna as well as coral growth studies.

AlgaGen currently develops products for the marine ornamental industry, specifically, live and non-live feeds for reef organisms; feeding through breeding.  Our feeds are used by the New England Aquarium, Georgia Aquarium, Dallas World Aquarium, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Florida Aquarium, MIT, Harvard, Brown, Yale, Stanford, Mote Marine, Harbor Branch Oceanographic, Oceanic Institute Hawaii, FIT, UF, FSU, U. AlgaGen was started by Erik Stenn,  in 2002.  Mr. Stenn’s degree is in marine microbial ecology (nutrient cycling, bacterial, phytoplankton and zooplankton interactions in the open ocean)and experieince encompassing  30+ years of marine aquaculture on projects around the world.
