On Friday, October 26thLiteracy Volunteers – Huntington Beach Public Library will host “Wine & Words,” our 6th annual fundraising event, in support of the city's library literacy program. Stellar wines from around the world will be provided by Southern Hemisphere. Event goers will have an opportunity to bid on silent auction baskets and raffle items, while enjoying light refreshments.

The highlight of the evening will be inspirational speakers from the community, including adult learners. Hear how their journey learning to speak, read and write English more clearly helped them become better, more informed citizens, increase their workplace skills, and become advocates for their families.

All money raised during this fundraiser will support on-going services provided by Literacy Volunteers—HBPL.

Registration is now open. Event parking is free.

About Literacy Volunteers

Literacy Volunteers, an accredited affiliate of ProLiteracy America, is a program of success stories: every book read with a child, every apartment application filled out completely, or every troublesome word or sound conquered. No matter how large or small the successes may seem, each one is a milestone for our learners, inculcating in them competencies in English reading, writing, and speaking.

Literacy Volunteers helps adult learners acquire the English skills needed to communicate with their children, doctors, employers, neighbors, friends, and many others. The Literacy program at Huntington Beach Public Library continues to grow as more and more adult learners recognize the importance of English literacy, seeing in it avenues towards professional and personal development.

Our learners have passed driving exams, received their GEDs or high school diplomas, filled out job applications, earned accreditations and promotions in their fields and employment, and become United States citizens: All of which contributes to the vitality of their families, homes, and communities.

Read our blog for stories direct from adult learners and volunteers.
