The Healing Power of Stories

An Evening of Storytelling

Telling one's own story is fundamental to growth and identity. Personal stories of healing can be profound for the wounded and for the "healer". The story goes beyond the technology of the healing arts and touches the personal, the ultimate, and the mystery of healing.

We invite you to join us for an evening of storytelling, and we hope you will share a story of your own.  Use the link below to register, and include a couple sentences about the story you would like to share.

For the storytellers:

  • Stories  should be 5-7 minutes in length, so please tailor your story within that time frame.
  • We will not have time for every submission.  We will let you know a few days in advance whether or not you will be a storyteller for the evening.  If yours is not selected this round, you will have an increased chance of being selected for our next storytelling evening.

Crafting Your Healing Story

Writing Workshop with Tacey Rosolowski
Saturday, February 18 | 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Tacey A. Rosolowski will help you jumpstart your story-craft with strategies of idea generation, detail selection, and story organization. Whether you want to write for yourself or to share with others, a more intentional approach to writing can help you develop perspective and wisdom about your experiences of healing.  Laptops are fine, but also bring your favorite writing instruments as well as colored pencils/markers so you can take advantage of some brainstorming techniques that foster writing creativity.  Tell your story: if you are healing, if you have a story about a friend or family member who is healing, or if you are a caregiver who supports healing.

Tacey A. Rosolowski is a creative nonfiction essayist whose publications have appeared in such journals as Salmagundi, Southwest Review, and The Antioch Review.  Two of her essays have been given Notable Mention in Best American Essays.  She has taught writing at Rice University and the University of Wisconsin at Madison.  She also works as an oral history interviewer and captures personal narratives for MD Anderson Cancer Center and the Foundation for the History of Women in Medicine.  She has a PhD in Comparative Literature from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
