If you are thinking about starting a new business or have recently started one, this is a valuable workshop for you. Starting a Business: What You Need to Know cuts through the confusion and chaos of what you need to do and think about to start a business.
In just 2 hours, you will gain a clear understanding of all the legal requirements for a start-up business, as well as actions that are simply smart to do. Some of the key topics covered include naming your business, licenses and taxes, insurance, financing sources, elements of a business plan, and marketing considerations. You’ll also hear how SCORE can help you succeed in your new venture.
What You Will Learn
Best of all, you’ll leave with a checklist of the 17 things you need to think about and do to be successful at establishing your business. This will be helpful to ensure a productive session with a SCORE Mentor.
"…this workshop gave me the information I need to consider in starting my business. It gave me a starting point." - Ryan S.
Instructor: Wayne Arnett
Wayne Arnett has over 35 years’ experience in accounting and finance, along with “Big Five” audit experience. The industries he’s served include advertising, distribution, manufacturing and waste management.
In addition to his work with SCORE, Wayne continues to work part-time as a financial and management consultant as president of the firm Arnett & Company, which he founded several years ago. As such, he is the acting CFO for a pharmaceutical start-up.
Instructor: Renee Miller
Renee Miller has decades of experience in retailing for major department stores, which enable her to develop in-depth knowledge of clothing production. In addition, she managed to start and operate two successful restaurants during her career.
The skills Renee needed to deliver success to the operations she was involved with enable her to be an effective mentor to start-up entrepreneurs, including forecasting, negotiating, problem solving and inventory control in high volume, time sensitive environments.
