Treating Lyme
with Chinese Medicine:
From Tick Bite to Neurological Symptoms
Presented by Brendan Kelly, L. Ac., M. Ac., Author, Professor

A crucial understanding in treating Lyme disease is that there are multiple stages to the condition. We will discuss acupuncture treatments to facilitate healing for patients who have been diagnosed with Lyme disease. Using the Chinese medicine disease progression theory of Sheng Hua, we will explore how one set of conditions leads to others, and how understanding the progression of Lyme is essential to not only treating symptoms but also preventing the condition. We’ll also discuss the importance of the use of The School of Heat/Wen Bing in treating the inflammation introduced by a tick bite. Finally, we’ll talk about the use of the Wai Ke/Neurological Tradition to both treat the symptoms and underlying cause of neurological Lyme disease, including tremors, seizures, headaches and migraines. Brendan will use several case studies of patients he’s worked with to discuss his experiences using acupuncture, Chinese herbs, diet and lifestyle to treat Lyme disease from very early through advanced stages. Brendan will also discuss the direct connection between global warming and the inflammation of Lyme.
