2019 Mike Sheehan Memorial Chess Tournament 

The Mike Sheehan Memorial Chess Tournament is a 5-game individual and team chess tournament for players of all ages. Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced sections. G25. Trophies and medals for top individuals, and trophies for teams (score is sum of top 4 players). Check-in is from 8:30-9:00 am with Round 1 starting at 9:30. Deadline Feb. 28.

Cost:  $15.00 per individual, $10 per individual if 3 or more players from same school or $10 per sibling  

 Registration deadline is 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, February 26th.

RULES & SCHEDULE:

The rules sheet is heretentative schedule is here. Note that if your player needs a half-point bye for one round (though only one, and not the final round), you should note that in the comment section of the registration form.

EQUIPMENT:

Please bring a chess clock if you have one.  Boards and pieces will be provided.

FOOD & DRINK:

Onsite food, drinks, snacks, and coffee will be available.

AWARDS

  • In all sections, trophies will be given to the top 3 individual finishers.  Plus score awards for players winning more than 1/2 their games. 
  • Where necessary, computer tie-breaks (SCO) will be used. 
  • Team awards to top 3 teams (based on top 3 scores) in beginner, intermediate, advanced sections.

SECTION DETAILS: 

  • Beginner (U600)
    For beginning (K-4) unrated players and players rated < 600.   This division will be split into smaller sections based on number of registrants and rating, or grade level if unrated.  5 round Swiss, G/25, NWSRS rated only.  Notation is not required.  Clocks will be used only if both players agree or if the tournament director assigns a clock. Trophies and medals as noted above.
  • Intermediate (U900)
    For intermediate (5-8th) unrated players and players rated 600 – 899.  This division will be split into smaller sections based on number of registrants and rating, or grade level if unrated.  5 round Swiss, G/25, NWSRS rated only. Notation is not required, but strongly encouraged.  Clocks will be used only if both players agree or if the tournament director assigns a clock.  Trophies and medals as noted above.
  • Advanced (900+)
    For advanced players rated 900+ and unrated 9-12th grade players.  This division will be split into smaller sections based on number of registrants and rating, or grade level if unrated.  5 round swiss, G/25, NWSRS rated only.  Notation required; clocks strongly encouraged, and will be used if they are available. Players should bring clocks. Trophies and medals as noted above.
