RULES & SCHEDULE:
The rules sheet is here; a tentative schedule is here. Note that if your player needs a half-point bye for one round (though only one, and not the final round), you should note that in the comment section of the registration form.
EQUIPMENT:
Please bring a chess clock if you have one. Boards and pieces will be provided.
FOOD & DRINK:
You can pre-purchase food at the time of registration; other food and drink will be available at the event.
COMMUNITY SERVICE RAFFLE:
Please bring toiletries and nonperishable food to help the SUN School / Impact NW Food Program for needy families! You will be entered into a raffle for fun prizes.
AWARDS:
- In the U600, U900, and U1100 sections, trophies will be given to the top 25% finishers. Plus score awards for players winning more than 1/2 their games.
- In the U1400 and Open/1400+ sections, cash prizes for top five places ($50/$40/$30/$20/$10); no tiebreaks - shared cash, instead, for cash awards.
- Cash prizes based on 100 total registrations, modified at the discretion of the organizer.
- Where necessary, computer tie-breaks (SCO) will be used.
- Two or three substantial sportsmanship trophies to be given.
- Team awards to top 3 teams (based on top 3 scores) in U600, U900, and combined U1100 / U1400 sections.
SECTION DETAILS:
- U600 and unrated K-4
For beginning (K-4) unrated players and players rated < 600. This division will be split into smaller sections based on number of registrants and rating, or grade level if unrated. 5 round Swiss, G/30, NWSRS rated only. Notation is not required. Clocks will be used only if both players agree or if the tournament director assigns a clock. Trophies and medals as noted above.
- U900 and unrated 5th-8th
For intermediate (5-8th) unrated players and players rated 600 – 899. This division will be split into smaller sections based on number of registrants and rating, or grade level if unrated. 5 round Swiss, G/30, NWSRS rated only. Notation is not required, but strongly encouraged. Clocks will be used only if both players agree or if the tournament director assigns a clock. Trophies and medals as noted above.
- U1100 and unrated 9-12.
For advanced players rated 900 - 1099, and unrated 9-12th grade players. This section may be divided or combined based on number of registrants and rating. 5 round swiss, G/40 d5, NWSRS rated only. Notation required; clocks strongly encouraged, and will be used if they are available. Players should bring clocks. Trophies and medals as noted above.
- U1400
For advanced players rated 1100 - 1399. This section may be divided or combined based on number of registrants and rating. 5 round swiss, G/40 d5, NWSRS rated only. Notation required; clocks must be used, and players should bring them. Cash Prizes only as noted above.
- Open / 1400+
For the most advanced players, and all players rated 1400+ in either USCF or NWSRS rating system. Four (4) round swiss, G/60 d5. Notation and clocks required. For initial placement in the section, we will use the higher of the established NWSRS rating in NWSRS system or USCF rating. Dual rated (NWSRS and USCF); USCF membership required (discounted membership available through OSCF, click here. New USCF memberships ($16-$24/yr., depending on age) and renewals also available online at www.uschess.org). Cash Prizes only as noted above.
