OSCF 2021 STATE QUALIFIER

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Complete this registration form before midnight, Thursday, Feb. 11.

 
2. Join the OSCF Team on Lichess (make sure to solve the mate-in-one (there's a hint, parents, if you need it!)): https://lichess.org/team/oregon-scholastic-chess-federation
 

3. At 6 pm Friday, February 12 the TD will email you the Zoom link, Section Assignment, and Tournament Password.
 

4. On Saturday, February 13, Join the Zoom call and Log in to Lichess between 8-8:20 am (Open/U1400+/U1400/U1100 sections) OR 9-9:20 am (U900/U600 sections) for the player meeting.

5. OSunday, February 14, winners can pick up their trophy/medal between 1-4 pm in Southwest Portland. If you don't live in the Portland area, email the TD at WilsonAreaChessClubs@gmail.com to request the award be mailed.

RULES & SCHEDULE:

Participants will compete in sections based on NWSRS ratings, but will be paired based on Lichess Classical Rating. Unrated players will be assigned sections based on their grade. Passwords for each section (U600, U900, U1100, U1400 and Open/1400+) will be emailed one day before the tournament. 

Open/1400+: 4-round Swiss Paired, G/60+5 (60 minutes per player, with 5 second increment on each move). First round at 8:30 am. Next rounds will begin 10 minutes after the last game ends.

U1400/U1100: 5-round Swiss Paired, G/40+5 (40 minutes per player, with 5 second increment on each move).  First round at 8:30 am. Next rounds will begin 10 minutes after the last game ends.

U900/U600: 5-round Swiss Paired, G/30+0 (30 minutes per player, with no increment on each move).  First round at 9:30 am. Next rounds will begin 10 minutes after the last game ends.

EQUIPMENT:

Players must use a computer or chromebook (not a tablet or phone) with a webcam. We will not be able to provide support for players using tablets or phones. Prizes may not be given to players who play without video. Players must also have a Lichess Account, which can be created for free at lichess.org. It is the player’s responsibility to ensure their equipment functions properly through the duration of the tournament.

OSCF FAIR PLAY AGREEMENT:

Players will need to read and agree to follow the rules specified in the OSCF Fair Play Agreement

 

AWARDS

  • In the U600, U900, and U1100 sections, trophies will be given to 1st-5th place finishers.  Even/Plus score medals for players winning 1/2 or more of their games (2.5 points/5 rounds)Where necessary, computer tie-breaks (SCO) will be used. 
  • In the U1400 and Open/1400+ sections, cash prizes for top five places ($35/$30/$25/20/$15); no tiebreaks - shared cash, instead, for cash awards.  Cash prizes based on 100 total registrations, modified at the discretion of the organizer.

AWARD PICK UP:

Winners can pick up their trophy/medal on Sunday, February 14 between 1-4 pm in Southwest Portland. Winners will be emailed the pick up address and directions after the tournament ends.

SECTION DETAILS: 

  • U600 and unrated K-4
    For beginning (K-4) unrated players and players rated < 600.   This division may be split into smaller sections based on number of registrants and rating, or grade level if unrated.  5 round Swiss, G/30, NWSRS rated. Trophies and medals as noted above.
  • U900 and unrated 5th-8th
    For intermediate (5-8th) unrated players and players rated 600 – 899.  This division may be split into smaller sections based on number of registrants and rating, or grade level if unrated.  5 round Swiss, G/30, NWSRS rated. Trophies and medals as noted above.
  • U1100 and unrated 9-12.
    For advanced players rated 900 - 1099, and unrated 9-12th grade players.  This section may be divided or combined based on number of registrants and rating.  5 round swiss, G/40+5, NWSRS rated. Trophies and medals as noted above.
  • U1400  
    For advanced players rated 1100 - 1399.  This section may be divided or combined based on number of registrants and rating.  5 round swiss, G/40+5, NWSRS rated.  Cash prizes only as noted above.
  • Open / 1400+ 
    For the most advanced players, and all players rated 1400+ in NWSRS rating system.  Four (4) round swiss, G/60+5, NWSRS rated.  Cash prizes only as noted above.
