Video: Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS)

Parents often rely on sticker charts, commands, and consequences to manage their children's behavior. However, sometimes these strategies stop working or do not address the underlying problem behind defiance, frustration, or behavioral and emotional difficulties. Parents need novel strategies to help children communicate and manage their frustrations and concerns better. This webinar will present a well-regarded treatment approach, Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS), as a helpful alternative to rewards and consequences, and one that can lead to healthier, more productive, more respectful methods of communication between parents and children.

Biography:  Dr. Rachelle Theise specializes in child therapy, parent training, and school consultations. Her areas of expertise include anxiety and depression, disruptive behavior, ADHD, separation anxiety, effects of divorce, and sleep and eating difficulties. Dr. Theise practices Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and is the only psychologist in NYC certified in Collaborative and Proactive Solutions. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Child Study Center at Hassenfeld Children's Hospital at NYU Langone.  She has co-authored publications appearing in book chapters and peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Theise earned her bachelor's degree with high distinction from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and received her doctoral degree in Clinical Child-School Psychology from the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, YU. Dr. Theise is a member of the American Psychological Association and a credentialed registrant in the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology.
