Jewish Baby Network Birth Preparation Class - Jan/Feb 2014

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CLASS HAS BEEN POSTPONED.  THANKS FOR YOUR INTEREST!

The six-week class covers both traditional birthing class topics (anatomy, stages of labor, pain management, etc.) and also includes themes and topics that are relevant to Jewish families.  Jewish topics include choosing a name, planning a welcoming ceremony, incorporating Jewish values in your parenting style, and more.  There will also be ample opportunity for parents to bond with others who are in the same situation (about to have a baby) and who are part of the same community (Jewish).  Parents-to-be will get the most out of the class when taken in the late second or early thrid trimester of pregnancy.

Here is a line up of speakers:

  • Stephanie Freeman, Certified Birthing from Within Instructor (Teaches at Blossom Birth, Harmony and Kaiser Santa Clara) - "Childbirth"
  • Rabbi Janet Marder, Senior Rabbi at Congregation Beth Am in Los Altos Hills - "Choosing a Name" and "Welcoming Ceremonies for Girls"
  • Rabbi David Booth, Senior Rabbi at Congregation Kol Emeth in Palo Alto - "Parenting" and "Bedtime"
  • Dr. Debra Weiss-Ishai, Mohel and Board Certified Pediatrician - "Ask the Mohel"
  • Dr. Erica Rosen, Anesthesiologist - "Demystifying Medical Intervention"
  • Dr. Bruce Feldstein, Jewish Chaplain at Stanford Hospital - "When Things Don't Go as Planned"
  • Elizabeth Eastman, LCSW - "Partner to Parent"
  • Cherie Tannenbaum, NP, IBCLC - Nurse Practitioner, Board Certified Lactation Consultant, Parent Educator  - "Surviving the First Week"
  • and more!

The class runs over six consecutive Wednesday nights from 6:00-9:00pm.  Participants are encouraged to bring a dairy dinner to eat between 6:00 and 6:30 each night (to faciliate schmoozing among parents-to-be).  The class will begin promptly at 6:30pm.  Dates of the class are 1/8, 1/15, 1/22, 1/29, 2/5 and 2/12.  The cost for the class is $200 per couple.
