INWPGC - January 21 program

Trusts: Why, When, How? 

We’re kicking off our 2015 programs with a panel discussion and Q&A on trusts. Why might someone need (or want) a trust? How are trusts created and administered? How can different types of charitable trusts be used to accomplish philanthropic plans?  What are practical motivators as to whether or not to use a trust, and how to structure a trust?  How have recent changes in trust and tax law shaped these motivations?   Join us to discuss these relevant issues and more!

 Panelists are:

Kjirstin J. Graham of K&L Gates - Kjirstin Graham is a lawyer in the Private Clients, Trusts and Estates group in the firm’s Spokane office. Ms. Graham devotes her practice to advising individuals and families in all aspects of their estate planning needs, including tax planning, wealth transfer strategies, business succession planning, asset protection, and charitable gifting, as well as document preparation related to those planning matters. Ms. Graham also counsels and represents fiduciaries, including professional and corporate trustees, and beneficiaries in the areas of estate and trust administration, both probate and non-probate proceedings, as well as estate and trust dispute resolution. 

Steve Trefts of Northwest Trustee and Estate Management Services Stephen W. Trefts has over 30 years of trust management experience.  A graduate of Gonzaga University School of Law, he was admitted to the Washington State Bar in 1976.  Prior to founding Northwest Trustee & Management Services, he served as a Trust Officer for Seattle First National Bank (now Bank of America) and later as the Executive Vice President of the Whitworth College Foundation.  Current affiliations include:  Washington State Bar Association; Spokane County Bar Association; Spokane Estate Planning Council; Inland Northwest Planned Giving Council; Dishman Hills Conservancy Board; and former Northwest Christian Schools Foundation, Board Chairman.

David Green of David Green CPA, PLLC - David has over 32 years of experience in public accounting serving individuals on matters relating to taxation, including estate and gift tax planning, retirement planning, charitable giving strategies, income tax minimization, stock option planning and taxation of fiduciaries.
