Joint States Meeting

Northwest Utility Coordinating Councils 

You’re invited to attend the Joint States Meeting of the Northwest Utility Coordinating Councils September 17-18, 2014 at the Big Sky Resort, Big Sky, Montana, near Yellowstone National Park.

The Joint States Meeting is an event held by the Utility Coordinating Councils from the 5 States of the great Northwest: Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington. The event is held every two years, and the member states alternate hosting. Participants are contractors, utility locators, construction and maintenance supervisors, managers of public and private utilities, public works directors, One-Call system directors, personnel and members, as well as any others interested in efforts to reduce damages to underground utilities caused by excavation and coordinate installation by communicating and cooperating from around the Northwest. The conference offers an opportunity for participants to exchange vital information and attend training sessions on a variety of utility topics in our changing environments.

This year's event is being hosted by the Montana Utility Coordinating Council (MUCC) and is being held at the Big Sky Resort at Big Sky, Montana on September 17-18, 2014. Use this link to register at Big Sky Resort.

Conference registration is $130 per person. The registration fee includes: Vendor Reception, three-continental breakfasts, Tuesday night Banquet, Lunch on Wednesday and Thursday, all refresshments and handouts. The Human side of safety (Context) comes from the Right Brain. Shane will provide the latest studies on how to bring more right Brain Thinking to Safety Leadership in a humorous, interactive and interesting way.

NorthWestern Energy is also the proud sponsor of Cliff MiedlWhen two-time USA Olympian kayaker Cliff Meidl led his Team USA Olympian teammates onto the field at the Opening Ceremonies of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, nearly two billion viewers around the world were watching this young man from Hawthorne, California. Many of these viewers learned for the first time about Meidl's courageous rehabilitation and recovery from a tragic construction accident that occurred in 1986. 
Cliff will speak about the accident, sustained during an excavation project, where underground utilities were not marked, as well as the effects that accident caused him, his co-workers and his family and how he overcame those horrible wounds to become an Olympic athlete.
