This is just some of the praise about ISDN's On Track Program, a leadership and educational empowerment program designed for students of color in fifth through eighth grades. Given the many subtle and overt negative messages surrounding children of color, our goal is to increase self-advocacy and social awareness, thereby enhancing leadership skills, self-advocacy and scholastic achievement.

About the Program

Who:  ISDN On Track caters to students of color in grades 5 - 8. A maximum of 10 students per grade will be accepted to allow for the fostering of strong relationships and learning in an intimate setting.   With peers from different schools sharing ideas, experiences, and knowledge, ISDN On Track enhances students' self-understanding and builds character while expanding their social network. Our instructors of color, all graduates of independent schools and leading universities, are experienced young professionals who serve as role models.

What:  During each Saturday session, ISDN On Track offers the following three Integrated Courses:

1. Foundationscharacter building, leadership & self-advocacy
2. Communications: study skills, writing and public speaking
3. Problem Solving & Math Life Skills: strategic thinking and math applications in everyday life (including coding, financial literacy, etc)

Journaling is expected in some classes to document experiences and concepts.

When: There are 10 Saturday sessions, between November 2015 and March 2016, that run from 10am to 2:00pm.  The dates are:

November - 11/7, 11/21        December - 12/5, 12/12

January - 1/23, 1/30        February - 2/6, 2/20, 2/27     March - 3/5

WHY ISDN On Track?Through our interactive programming, students learn specific skill sets that enhance their capacity to thrive and excel. Building self-confidence through identity development is essential to diminishing the lingering achievement gap.  Students have found the interactive classes to be not only beneficial to their regular school experience, but also enjoyable.
