This is just some of the praise about ISDN's On Track Program, a leadership and educational empowerment program designed for students of color in fifth through eighth grades. Given the many subtle and overt negative messages surrounding children of color, our goal is to increase self-advocacy and social awareness, thereby enhancing leadership skills, self-resiliency and scholastic achievement.
About the Program
Who: ISDN On Track is for students of color in grades 5 - 8. A maximum of 10 students per grade will be accepted to allow for the fostering of strong relationships and learning in an intimate setting. With peers from different schools sharing ideas, experiences, and knowledge, ISDN On Track enhances students' self-understanding and builds character while expanding their social network.
Our instructors of color, all graduates of independent schools and leading universities, are experienced young professionals who serve as role models.
What: During each Saturday session, ISDN On Track offers the following three Integrated Courses:November - 11/10, 11/17 December - 12/1, 12/8
January - 1/12, 1/26 February - 2/9, 2/23
March - 3/2, 3/9
Where: All sessions take place at The Nightingale Bamford School - 20 East 92nd Street, between 5th and Madison Ave.
Why ISDN On Track?: Through our interactive programming, students learn specific skill sets that enhance their capacity to thrive and excel. Building self-awareness through identity development is essential to diminishing the lingering achievement gap.
Students have found the interactive classes to be fun, enjoyable and beneficial to their regular school experience. The peer interactions and new friendships developed during On Track also enhances students social connections.
