SkyView Training Class (VFR)

April 02, 2014 9am - 12pm, break for lunch, 1pm - 4pm

We all recognize that transition training is important before hopping into a new airplane or airplane type. Whether in the clouds or in clear skies, flying a new plane is not the right time to be learning how to operate aircraft avionics and systems. We at Dynon recognize this, and offer an ongoing series of hands-on training. This is a full day course, sitting in front of live SkyView equipment, with in depth instruction on how to operate your avionics.

This class is being held at our factory near Seattle, Washington.  The factory classes are free, but please do sign up so we know you are coming. If you are from out of town and want to make a weekend of it, nearby are some incredible aviation sites. The Seattle Museum of Flight, Paul Allen's Flying Heritage Collection (perfectly restored, flight worthy WWII aircraft), the Boeing Factory Tour (747s, 777s, and 787s) and Other Local Aviation Events are must sees.

Instructing this class will be Kirk Kleinholz, CFII and Sales Manager for Dynon Avionics.

This 10 October class will be a special “live video taping” of the class we’ve been offering for the last couple years.  Because of that, the format will be longer than prior offerings.  The class will last a total of 6 hours, from 9:00a-12:00p and from 1:00p-4:00p, with a 1-hour break for lunch, to be provided free to all participants.

Many topics will be covered in greater detail than in our normal half-day classes.  Our aim in video-taping this class is to produce a series of  video segments  covering all the content of the class in short chapters of 10-20 minutes in length.

SkyView training class

Class Description:
This class will introduce pilots to most ground and in-flight operational features of the Dynon Avionics SkyView system.  In-depth discussion of installation and initial configuration of the system is not an objective of this class, though some of those concepts will be addressed where relevant.

Specific to the SkyView system, pilots will learn how to:
  - Configure the display(s) for various phases of ground and flight operations.
  - Navigate using the integrated VFR GPS moving map and flight planner.
  - Configure and operate the autopilot for both VFR and IFR missions.
  - Access course guidance information from various navigation sources installed in the aircraft.
  - Locate and understand various calculated data presented by SkyView (ie:  winds aloft, TAS, density altitude, angle-of-attack, fuel computer).

An additional objective of this class is to educate pilots about the process of transitioning from analog instrumentation to glass panel systems in a small GA aircraft.  Topics covered will include:
  - Cognitive differences of analog and digital/electronic instrumentation
  - Need for training and experience in successful transition
  - Benefits and pitfalls of glass panel systems
  - Cockpit resource management

All SkyView owners are welcome to attend, regardless of experience level using SkyView.  Also welcome are those with no experience using SkyView and those considering whether to purchase a SkyView system.

Attendance is free to all participants.  Advance registration is required, as space is limited to 14 people.

Transportation:
  - Attendees are responsible for their own transportation to and from the event.
