Keeping Elementary Students Engaged with Jessica Rosenthal

Many traditional classroom practices engage one student at a time and risk the inattention of others. We'll share easy to use tips and tricks for keeping all your students engaged all the time. Leave with ideas to use in your classroom tomorrow and in the future. This workshop is designed for elementary school educators.

Magic in the Middle: Managing a Middle School Classroom with Erinne Silver and Laura Vago

There's a reason why when you tell people you teach middle school they either praise you 100 times over or look at you like you've done something crazy, like rob a bank. In this workshop, we will briefly offer a variety of strategies and tools to help your classroom run smoothly. With very distinct experiences and very different classrooms, we've pooled our ideas about what works for us. We also have a couple of resources that we give as freebies to make your own! Most of the session will focus on allowing you to discuss and problem-solve example scenarios, either from our or your experience, in order to generate tools and skills that you can take back to your own classroom practice. It's a great discussion-based workshop, where conversations and stories of our and your experiences build your repertoire of approaches. In fact, we may learn a thing or two from the participants, too! This workshop is designed for middle school educators.

Classroom Management: High School with Kathryn Procter, Emma Hensler and Zena Link

In this presentation, participants will share ideas and have small and large group discussions about classroom management at the high school level. Everyone will get a chance to talk about their experiences in the classroom so far to share what has worked for them as well as what has not worked. Participants will also examine case studies to apply their newly learned classroom management common strategies, techniques and approaches. This workshop is designed for high school educators.

Licensure Basics for New Teachers with Beth Tripathi

This workshop will provide an overview of the educator licensure system with a focus on making sure you are working under the right license and knowing the steps to keep your license active. Information on employment waivers, approved educator preparation programs and adding licenses will also be covered in this workshop. The information in this workshop will include changes to licensure adopted in 2017.

It’s Not Just Putting Lipstick on a Pig! Creating Classroom Resources That Look Amazing, Engage Students, and Maximize Visual Learning! with Gene Reiber

Have you ever wondered how those people on Pinterest make everything they create look so amazing? It’s really not too difficult to turn the ordinary into the amazing once you’ve learned some digital tricks that will seem like magic solutions! Workshop participants will use a variety of digital applications to create a range of classroom resources. Many of the apps from Google - including Forms, Docs and Slides will be the springboard for creating visually engaging classroom materials. As a result of this workshop, you will have the tools to make classroom resources that are not only engaging to look at, but also maximize the potential for visual learning with everything you share. Your classes, colleagues, and parents may mistake you for a graphics designer once you start applying these skills to your already amazing classroom practice! Workshop participants should plan on bringing a digital device such as a laptop or chromebook capable of accessing a Wi-Fi network.

Tech with Purpose (Advanced) with Diana Marcus

Don't just teach with purpose, tech with purpose!  Pinterest and the web are awash with fun ways you can use technology in your classroom, but how do you plan for tech integration that elevates and enhances teaching and learning?  In this workshop, we will peer through the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) lens to plan for tech use that creates more inclusive, engaging, and student-centered learning environments. Please bring a laptop, Chromebook, or tablet in order to access and begin using the online resources we will create and explore.

Watch Me Tech: Using Technology as a Tool of Engagement 101 with Jennifer Maio

In this hands-on workshop, participants will discuss and practice utilizing technology to engage and vary the types of projects and activities done in the classroom. Together we’ll investigate how various technology tools can be used provide multiple means of engagement and student projects. Although this workshop is device neutral, we ask for participants to bring their own device and a “yes and” attitude! Designed for Middle and High School Teachers. There will be both time to practice with different tools and time to create an activity/lesson.
