2014 Architectural Tour: Truth or Consequences

Saturday, October 25 

T or C will be the New Mexico Architectural Foundation’s 27th tour – an annual event that is renowned for featuring our state’s most enchanting built treasures and the people who construct and preserve them.

 Be sure to register early!  
This year's tour is limited to 45 participants. 

TOUR AGENDA
Truth or Consequences is about a 2hr, 15 min. drive from Albuquerque.  Please plan your arrival accordingly and consider carpooling.  

11:00 am:         Participants will meet  at the Lee Bell Center (downtown TorC - 301 South Foch) 
                          Snacks will be provided by Passion Pie  
                           Opening comments by NMAF board members
                           Presentation by town historian Sherry Fletcher and community advocate Tita Berger

11:30 am:        Sherry Fletcher and Tita Berger will lead a walking tour of the historic downtown

1:00 pm:           Travel by bus or car to the park area at the Elephant Butte dam site

1:15 pm:            Lunch
                           Then a walking tour of the facilities at the park (many are CCC-constructed) 

2:15 pm:            Visit dam overlook, then return to TorC

3:00 pm:            Tour of Carrie Tingley Hosptial (now VA hospital) and adjacent war memorial

4:00 pm:             Return to parked cars.  Hotel check-in.

5:00 pm:             Reconvene at Carrie Tingley
                             Healing Waters walk lead by guide/designer/ organizer Tita Berger  

6:30 pm:             Group dinner at the BellaLuca Cafe Italiano

7:30 pm:             Panel discussion 

Following dinner we will move to Geronimo Springs Museum meeting room for a panel discussion and dessert will be provided by the Daughters of the American Revolution.  

"The Future of Small Town America, T or C in Particular"
Panelists to include Linda Demarino, Sherry Fletcher,  and Steve Green, City Commissioner.
Roy Hertweck, Past NMAF President and chief planner at Sandia Labs will moderate. 

OPTIONAL SUNDAY EVENTS

  • Space Port America
    An organized tour lasting 3.5 hours, leaving T or C with a visit the Norman Foster-designed Gateway Building and tour the adjacent Spaceport Operations Center. The cost is $50 per person and reservations will be needed.   
  • Winston/ Chloride/ Monticello driving tour
    John Briscoe will lead caravan of interested folks on a driving tour of the old mining towns of Winston and Chloride and the farming/ranching community of Monticello. Plan on 3 hours for this adventure.
  • El Camino Real International Heritage Center north of Tor C.  This is a recommended stop for those traveling back north on I-25.
