Beyond Being Bright: Teaching the Whole Child

At this conference, educators will be encouraged to look beyond the academic arena and explore the nuances of the gifted child. Session breakout topics will include the social emotional needs of this population, cultivating cultures of challenge, and promoting self-advocacy for the gifted student.

Keynote Speaker Thomas Hebert, a Lewiston native returns to address the social emotional needs of the gifted learner. Dr. Hebert is a professor of Gifted and Talented Education at the University of South Carolina. He has written many books including a seminal book on the topic of social emotional needs, Understanding the Social and Emotional Lives of Gifted Students and most recently published Talented Young Men Overcoming Tough Times: An Exploration of Resilience.
