Join us on September 22, 2016, at the Ethan Allen Hotel, 21 Lake Avenue Ext., Danbury, Connecticut.
The presentation starts at 7:00 PM (doors open at 6:30).
With a record number of Americans age 65 and older, when they are feeling most vulnerable, millions of seniors are faced with making critical decisions involving their health, financial security, and legal needs. This seminar will arm seniors and their family members with an array of elder law tools to help them maintain "control" of their lives, and protect their assets, even if unable to personally handle their affairs. Learn what you need to know to protect yourself and your family assets when dealing with sensitive estate planning and long term care decisions.
The presenters and their topics:
What Seniors Need to Know but Would Never Think to Consider
Planning for long-term care is like navigating a minefield. To help guide our clients, we invited Attorney Alyson R. Marcucio to join us as a Member of the firm after an exhaustive search for an attorney with her skills, knowledge and experience performing long-term care and estate planning services for seniors and the chronically disabled. Her presentation will cover information you need to know but which you would never have thought to consider (a/k/a traps for the unwary) regarding Medicaid and planning for long-term care. As an ancient wise person once said, "Forewarned is forearmed."
How New Legislation (FINRA) Deals with Hot Button Issues for Seniors
Attorney Christopher J. Gawley recently joined us as a Member of the firm after serving as First Vice President and Associate General Counsel for Bank Leumi U.S.A. As such, he is uniquely qualified to discuss the regulation of the financial services industry.
FINRA (the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) has made the protection of senior investors a top priority. Chris will discuss the hot button issues, warning signs of elder financial abuse and best practices that financial professionals should consider when servicing aging clients.
In addition, Chris will discuss the special responsibility that financial institutions and professionals may have when they encounter seniors with signs of diminished capacity.
Legal Remedies for Financial Elder Abuse Victims (A Case Study)
Attorney Timothy M. Herring, a Member of the firm, leads our litigation group. Tim will share a case study while discussing remedies available to victims of elder financial abuse. What are the legal tactics and strategies involved when we are asked to make things right after something has gone wrong?
No admission charge.
