Congressman Malinowski

January 18 - Union County ELC

with

Congressman

Tom Malinowski

Congressman Tom Malinowski (born September 23, 1965) is one of New Jersey’s newest Congressmen, representing the 7th District which includes much of Union County.   The Congressman was born in Poland and came to the US with his mother at the age of six.  He was raised in Princeton and attended the University of California, Berkeley where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and then obtained a Master Degree of philosophy from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar.

The Congressman’s career in government began as a Special Assistant for Senator Moynihan in 1988.  He has worked for the Institute of Human Sciences in Vienna, Austria, and also for the Ford Foundation.  He has served as a speech writer for two Secretaries of State and also as the Senior Director on the National Security Council at the White House.

Between 2001 and 2013 Congressman Malinowski served as Washington Director for Human Rights Watch.  During President Obama’s second term Congressman Malinowski was nominated to serve as Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor.  Following the end of his tenure at the State Department, Malinowski joined fellow officials from President Obama’s administration to lobby Congress in an effort to prevent the Administration from lifting the sanctions on Russia following its invasion of Ukraine.

On October 2, 2017, Congressman Malinowski announced his candidacy for U.S. Congress which he successfully concluded last November.

There is no better way to meet with your legislators, network with your colleagues, and learn about issues affecting your business than to attend your local ELC meetings.

The ELCs, established by NJBIA in 1959, are independent, local organizations representing all 21 counties. ELCs meet monthly for breakfast or lunch. These meetings take no longer than 90 minutes. At each meeting, legislators, cabinet members or local officials will discuss important issues pertinent to business. You will also receive a briefing from one of NJBIA's government affairs experts on legislative and regulatory issues affecting employers.

Take advantage of this opportunity to tell your legislators and other decision makers, such as the Governor, cabinet members and legislative leaders, how their decisions impact your business.
