Assemblywoman Linda Carter

Linda Carter, affectionately known as “New Jersey’s Wonder Woman” has served locally for nearly two decades, as a member of the Plainfield City Council and as a member of the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders – earning a reputation as a bold progressive, and pragmatic trailblazer willing to take on a wide array of challenges that affect her communities.

In May 2018 Ms. Carter was appointed to serve as a member of the New Jersey General Assembly representing the 22nd Legislative District, comprised of Union, Middlesex & Somerset Counties to fill the vacancy created by the death of Assemblyman Gerald B. Green.  In November 2018 Assemblywoman Linda Carter was elected at a special election to fill the unexpired term.

She currently serves on the Science, Innovation, and Technology Committee, the Telecommunications and Utilities Committee, the Law & Public Safety Committee and was recently selected to serve on the New Jersey Legislative Black Caucus 2020 Census Reapportion Policy Committee.  The youngest of her siblings, she graduated from the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Assemblywoman Carter also holds a Master of Science degree in Management, Information Management from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken.

With a focus on assisting youths and seniors, Assemblywoman Carter has received numerous awards.  She has been a volunteer mentor and a Big Sister and has helped to ensure that homeless persons receive food.

Currently, Assemblywoman Carter is employed by the Passaic Board of Education as a High School Business Education Teacher. Prior to her career in education, she worked at AT&T in Access Management of the CFO Division, and as Portfolio Asset Manager for AT&T Credit Communication.

As the only educator to serve in the New Jersey General Assembly, Linda Carter is proud to stand with the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) to advance and protect the rights, benefits and interest of educators across this state and to promote a quality system of public education for all students.

There is no better way to meet with your legislators, network with your colleagues, and learn about issues affecting your business than to attend your local ELC meetings.

The ELCs, established by NJBIA in 1959, are independent, local organizations representing all 21 counties. ELCs meet monthly for breakfast or lunch. These meetings take no longer than 90 minutes. At each meeting, legislators, cabinet members or local officials will discuss important issues pertinent to business. You will also receive a briefing from one of NJBIA's government affairs experts on legislative and regulatory issues affecting employers.

Take advantage of this opportunity to tell your legislators and other decision makers, such as the Governor, cabinet members and legislative leaders, how their decisions impact your business.
