This evening session is designed to assist owners, H.R. Managers and other managers with drafting and enforcing written personnel policies.  Topics covered will include:

  • Does your Company’s Application for Employment form meet new CO State law requirements and prohibitions?
  • Are all applicants executing the background investigation authorization required under Federal law?
  • What forms should be included in the new employee packet materials. 
  • Do’s and don’ts of drafting Company policies.
  • How to draft concise, unambiguous and enforceable Pay Plans.

This evening, we will provide a detailed outline of the Amended Minimum Wage Order, which became effective in March, 2020.  Are you implementing the order correctly? Topics that will be discussed include:   

  • Industries covered under the new Order.  
  • New minimum pay requirements for managers classified as exempt from overtime.
  • New overtime pay requirements.
  • New employee uniform policies.
  • What deductions may be taken from an employee’s paycheck?

This session is designed to teach the basics on:

  • How to ensure you are hiring the right person.
  • Why documentation of all employee disciplinary and performance issues is a must.
  • How to document verbal warnings, and draft Written Warnings and Termination Notices.  
  • Best practices for conducting disciplinary meetings.
  • Basic Work Comp laws and procedures.

Michelle has extensive legal experience in the public and private sector. As a result of her varying areas or practice, she also has extensive trial and hearing experience. She has represented private companies, insurance carriers, individuals, and other entities in the defense of employment discrimination claims, unemployment claims, wage and hour claims, contract disputes, and general liability matters. Michelle provides consultant services for private companies in the areas of risk management and employment law. She also provides management training on a variety of topics.

While practicing in the private sector, Michelle was asked to become the in-house attorney for the City and County of Denver’s Human Resources Agency. There she handled projects for the Director of the Agency, including rewriting personnel rules for the City and County of Denver, and creating the first mediation program to be utilized by City and County of Denver employees.
