Letter from the Alumni Association President

Greetings from the Alumni Association!

Now that we are through three-quarters of the year we would like to give you an update on some of the Alumni activities that have taken place since our last newsletter.  On Saturday, November 3, 2012, alumni and friends of KCCBS gathered from far and near to experience a great evening of worship at the Annual Gospel Sing.  Featuring a mass choir of over sixty participants, the music was coordinated by Gary McClanahan and directed by special guest Harv Lyon.  The music featured singing groups and soloists from days gone by at KCCBS as people gathered to celebrate the 75th anniversary year of KCCBS.  It was a great time to reconnect with old friends and acquaintances.  But even more than that, it was a wonderful evening of worship!

On Friday, March 1, 2013 the Alumni Association held the annual Chili Supper and Auction.  The food for the evening was prepared by various members of the KCCBS community and the auction featured dozens of items from local and regional merchants and donors.  In all, around $7,000 was raised that evening to benefit the Salary Endowment Fund held by the Alumni Association.  The total of all Alumni endowments is now just over $239,000!  The interest from the salary portion of this endowment fund is used each year to supplement the salaries of full-time employees of KCCBS and OCS.  This past year we distributed over $8,000 to this very appreciative group at our schools.

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of KCCBS, the Alumni Association has teamed up with the KCCBS and OCH drama department to produce a Spring drama and musical the weekend of April 26-27, 2013.  Show times are 7:00 each evening with a 2:00 matinee performance on Saturday afternoon.  Adult tickets are $10.00 and children 12 and under are $7.00.  Due to licensing restrictions, we cannot disclose the name of the musical in print.  However, let’s just say that “the hills are alive” with the sound of our spring musical!  This Rodgers and Hammerstein classic was last performed on campus 18 years ago and this year is being co-directed by Miss Tawnya Smith and Mrs. Lynette (Purtle) Williams. You are invited to come experience the famous Von Trapp family in a story set in early 20th century Austria.

I am happy to announce that we will be holding our annual Alumni Banquet on Saturday, April 27.  This year the banquet will be held at noon in Cowen Memorial Auditorium and will be followed by a 2:00 p.m. matinee drama performance.  Tickets to the banquet, which includes the drama production, are $25 each.  Please RSVP by completing the enclosed form.  The enclosed form is also a ballot for the open positions on the Alumni board.

We hope to see you on campus soon! May God bless you.
