PeaceJam Northwest Mentor Application 2018

Thank you for your interest in being a PeaceJam MENTOR at the Youth Leadership Conference April 7-8th, 2018.  PeaceJam is an international organization led by 14 Nobel Peace Prize winners.  We help young people, through inspiration, education, and action, to create service projects addressing the toughest issues in the world.  Here in the Northwest, we work with teens throughout the year to address these issues, and then bring them together with UO students at two conferences during the year.

What is a PeaceJam Mentor?

A PeaceJam Mentor is a person aged 18-26 who facilitates small groups of middle and high school participants at the annual PeaceJam Youth Conference.  Mentors creates the space and energy of the event to ensure that all participants feel welcomed and safe to engage in the challenge topics of social justice and world peace.  It is fun, inspiring, and educational, and you will get the chance to spend some time with an amazing world leader for peace and social justice.  We welcome all Mentors - shy, outgoing, experienced, first-time mentors, activists, educators, you name it, as long as you're committed.  You will be paired with another Mentor and we will make sure you're trained before the event.

2018 PeaceJam Conference Mentor Commitment

  • Attend both full days of the 2018 Conference on Saturday AND Sunday, April 7-8, 2018 at the University of Oregon.
  • Attend the mandatory Mentor Trainings on March 11th, 10 am-4:30pm, and April 2nd, 5-8 pm.  While we expect that everyone will make every effort to attend, we also recognize that valid, extenuating circumstances may prevent you from attending.  If that's the case please contact northwest@peacejam.org to explain your circumstances.  Each case will be considered on its own merits.
  • Attend mandatory Mentor Logistics session on Thurs, April 5th at 5 pm.
  • Unfortunatley, if you are unable to attend both trainings you will not be able to mentor at the conference. Please plan accordingly.

Other Requirements

You must pass a background check that we will be running.  The results of the background check will be reviewed by PeaceJam and held in confidence.  Offenses that are likely to result in disqualification are felonies and misdemeanors classified as an offense against a person or family, an offense against a minor, public indecency, or a violation involving a state or federally controlled substance.  If you have any concerns please reach out to us.  All situations are handled on a case by case basis.

Deadline to apply: March 1st, 2018.
