You’ve seen news reports on what happens to victims of bullying…
Depression. Academic failure. Violent outbursts. Teen suicide.

But there are consequences for all—bystanders, bullies, victims, families. Bullying is not only a school problem—it is a societal issue that needs more foot soldiers…and a family-oriented strategy. Family and consumer sciences professionals are uniquely positioned to help individuals, families, schools, and communities to address it. No other profession can connect the dots and bring everyone together in this critical effort the way that FCS can.

Here are the sobering statistics:

  • 28% of students are bullied at school.
  • 35% of employees are bullied at work.
  • 90% of LGBTQ individuals are bullied at school.

Bullying typically affects kids ages 9-18. It starts in elementary grades, peaks in middle school, and continues in high school. Kids who bully in school may eventually bully at work.

What are the warning signs?
How can you help?
