Better Community Engagement: An Interactive Presentation on Embracing Organizational Change 

As an organization with a mission to promote intercultural appreciation and understanding through music, engaging a diverse community is a top priority for The Cedar. During this interactive presentation led by Program Manager Fadumo Ibrahim and Executive Director Adrienne Dorn, learn how The Cedar’s access improved when they embraced fundamental, organization-wide change.

The presentation will explore The Cedar’s journey to better community engagement, which started with ticket giveaways in 2010 and eventually evolved into Midnimo. Midnimo, Somali for “unity,” is The Cedar’s flagship program that features the world’s leading Somali artists in residencies and events that increase understanding of Somali culture through music. Launched in 2014, Midnimo has now served more than 16,000 audience members and expanded into three cities throughout the state. Along the way, The Cedar faced challenges that enabled them to adapt into a more dynamic, accessible, and engaged organization.

Following the presentation, join us for live music by Midnimo artists on The Cedar’s new Community Plaza. Musicians will include Somali percussionist Harbi, along with the Rahmo Rose Band featuring The Cedar’s Somali Artist-in-Residence, Rahmo Rose, with a backing band from Augsburg’s Small Jazz Ensemble. Refreshments will be provided.

The Cedar does not have a dedicated parking lot, but there are a few public lots within a block that have very reasonable rates. They are also located a block from both the Blue Line (Cedar Riverside) and the Green Line (West Bank Station).
