Earthbound Farm and Carmel Lavender Harvest Event
Join in the organic Lavender and Lemon Verbena harvest at our Carmel Valley Farm Stand.
Local lavender guru John Russo of Carmel Lavender and our own Janna Jo Williams will lead you in the field to harvest armloads of lavender and lemon verbena followed by a workshop on distilling these amazingly fragrant herbs into essential oils. Renew your appreciation for all things Lavender and discover the wonders of one of our Farm Stand favorites Lemon Verbena.
Executive Chef Sarah LaCasse will create delicious organic treats to enjoy with herbal tea from your own blends picked fresh from the Herb Garden, and of course our famous Fancy Herb Water.
To remember and celebrate your day on the farm each guest will take home a vial of the finished oil or hydrosol and a bounty of fresh herbs.

Learn How to Cut Lavender
Learn to cut lavender with a traditional scythe. There will be a cutting demonstration showing how to cut lavender and tie it into lovely bunches that you can take home and enjoy fresh or dry. But don't worry if the scythe looks intimidating, we will have plenty of contemporary hand pruners as well. At the event you will receive gloves and a cutting instrument and participate in a u-pick activity. You will also be permitted to cut from the ample lemon verbena grown in the Earthbound herb garden.
Discover How Essential Oils Are Made
Carmel Lavender will be demonstrating the use of a 55 liter essential oil still, and teaching you every step of the steam extraction process of essential oils from lavender flowers. This demonstration will produce real lavender oil and hydrosol (herbal waters). Uses of both will be discussed, and participants will be able to take their own sample of either the essential oil or hydrosol!
