Mountain Flying Ground School at KAPA
Wednesday, February 27, 6:00-9:00pm

One of the greatest thrills of being a pilot in Colorado is the opportunity to fly throughout the majestic Rocky Mountains. With snowcapped peaks, high deserts and grasslands, and many interesting public-use airports, mountain flying can be the highlight of a lifetime!

All Aspen Flying Club pilots wishing to fly in the mountains need a mountain flying checkout. Pilots with their own aircraft are highly encouraged to do the same. Our Mountain Flying Ground School, followed by a mountain flight with one of our expert instructors, is a great way to earn a mountain flying checkout.

About the Mountain Flying Ground School Course

The class will consist of 3 hours of ground training, where you will learn the basics of how to fly in the rocky terrain. You will learn about performance considerations, developing go-no-go judgment skills, the fundamentals of mountain flight planning, and developing confidence for mountain flying. Your instructor for the evening will be veteran pilot and flight instructor Mark Pederson.

After completing this course, your next step will be to do the flight portion. Plan and fly a breathraking and challenging route through the Rocky Mountains. Common destinations are Buena Vista, Leadville, Aspen, Glenwood, and Granby. There are many other options; the sky is the limit on where you can go!

*The cost of the class is $99 for Aspen/Alliance/Western Club members and  $149 for non-members. The flight portion of the checkout will be a separate cost, depending on the aircraft choice and desired route of the student.

Class space is limited, so don't wait to register!
