One of the greatest thrills of being a pilot in California is the opportunity to fly over the West Coast's varying terrain. With the snowy Sierras within reach, valleys and deserts, and many interesting public-use airports, mountain flying can be the highlight of a lifetime!
All Bay Area Flying Club pilots wishing to fly in the mountains need a mountain flying checkout. Pilots with their own aircraft are highly encouraged to do the same. This can be accomplished by taking our Mountain Flying Ground Course, followed by a mountain flight with one of our experienced instructors. Each student will fly a specific route determined by the instructor to individually suit your needs. Typically, our members opt to take a flight to either North or South Lake Tahoe.
About the Mountain Flying Ground Course
The class will consist of 3 hours of ground training, where you will learn the basics of how to fly in high elevations. You will learn the fundamentals of performance considerations, developing go-no-go judgment skills, mountain flight planning, and developing confidence for mountain flying.
The next ground session will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021 from 9AM- 12PM.
*The cost of the class is $99 for Bay Area Flying Club members and $149 for non-members. The flight portion of the checkout will be a separate cost, depending on the aircraft choice and desired route of the student.
Class space is limited, so don't wait to register!
