January 2017 Chapter Meeting Remote Call-In Registration

Join your colleagues over the phone at our Thursday, January 26th chapter meeting (new date).

Presentation Title: Requirements Elicitation and Elaboration Workshop

Over the past year in our chapter meetings, we have learned methods to improve requirements elicitation skills, cultivating winning relationships, influencing project sponsors and stakeholders, and techniques to gather requirements quickly. Here's your opportunity to put your learning and skills to the test!

This chapter meeting will be a hands-on requirements elicitation and elaboration workshop. During this chapter meeting we will be briefly reviewing key requirements elicitation and elaboration skills, then putting them to the test in several small workshop groups to elicit the key requirements for a pre-defined project, and then elaborating them in a little detail. Members of the leadership committee will be acting as project stakeholders for each workshop group. Each group must then interview their assigned business stakeholder from the leadership committee, and elicit the key business requirements and then elaborate them a bit.

Be forewarned that these business stakeholders will try to act like real business stakeholders which do not always make it easy or clear as to what they really need, which should make this a little more challenging and interesting!

The project for which the requirements will be elicited have been pre-defined by the chapter leadership committee, but will only be revealed to each workshop team to the extent that they can elicit them, and then elaborate them as time permits.

More Information

What we can let you know ahead of time, is that the project we will be elaborating requirements for is a new system for an internet services company to support efforts to upsell high speed internet services to existing customers who currently use the company’s lower speed internet access service or who are not using our company for their internet access.

At the end of the session we will come back together a single group and compare notes between each of the workshop groups to see which group came the closest to eliciting all the key pre-defined project business requirements, and essential details.

This should be a very interesting and educational exercise to see how well each group does in extracting business requirements from their stakeholder, and see what might have been missed and lessons learned.
