Propagating Perennials

Increase your perennial collection, replace mature plants, grow varieties that may not be offered for sale, and even produce new hybrids! Learn different propagation skills including growing from seed, cuttings, and divisions of a wide range of perennials in this combination lecture and demonstration. This lecture/demo is only available in spring and early fall.

Jana Milbocker is the principal of Enchanted Gardens, a lecturer and garden writer. She has a passion for landscape design and horticulture, and has been gardening on her 2-acre property in Holliston’s historic district for over 20 years. The garden surrounding her Victorian home features more than 140 varieties of trees and shrubs, perennial gardens, peony and rose beds, water features and shady retreats. Jana is interested in all aspects of design—spatial relationships, the interplay of light and shadow, color theory, texture, proportion and plant combinations.

Trained as a graphic designer, Jana brings years of critical design thinking, clarity and cohesiveness to her landscape solutions. Her professional experience includes twenty five years as an art director and designer. Jana holds a BFA in Graphic Design, an MBA, and coursework in horticulture and landscape design. She published The Garden Tourist: 120 Destination Gardens and Nurseries in the Northeast in 2017.

Joan Butler, lecturer, has been an enthusiastic gardener for over 30 years, and believes gardens should invite you to linger in the world outside your door. Her gardens have been included on several garden tours, and feature exciting plant combinations, dramatic horticultural specimens, and collections of hosta, heuchera and epimedium.

Joan is a Master Gardener, a horticulturalist at Weston Nurseries, and is the immediate past Chairman of the Massachusetts Landscape Design Council. She is also an accredited Flower Show Judge, and was Chairman of the floral design Division I competition at the Boston Flower and Garden Show 2014-2015.
