Click here to register for Eco Printing on Paper, Saturday August 8th

Record your visit to Mass Hort by printing our plants on fabric! Maine fiber artist Mary DeLano will teach you the art and craft of Eco-printing; a process where plant materials are placed on specially treated fabric and then steamed to release the pigments in the plants, leaving realistic prints of the plants on the fabric.

Participants will learn about which plants print reliably and will have a chance to experiment with other plants and to gather their own plants on the grounds of Mass Hort. Students will take home eight printed pieces of fabric, including one silk scarf.  Watch a video at https://www.marydelanofiberart.com/ to see what fun awaits you.

This class is suitable for beginners and experienced eco printers.  Mary will be introducing some new techniques which involve using modifiers, like iron and tannin, to change nature of your prints.

Mary DeLano is a fiber explorer who loves eco printing, natural dying, stitching, wool applique, and rug making. Mary enjoys sharing her passion for fiber arts with new students.  She teaches throughout New England, including at Maine Fiber College, where she also serves on the organizing committee.

Students will need to bring tight fitting dishwasher gloves, as we will be working with chemicals which will stain our hands.
