Carruthers & Roth, P.A.  is pleased to announce our annual 2014 Business & Tax Seminar taking place on Wednesday, December 3, 2014.  This full-day seminar, designed for CPAs, accounting and tax professionals, will focus on key issues, policies and requirements related to their profession. 

Objectives

Upon completion of the 2014 Business & Tax Seminar, attendees will be able to:

  • Summarize the general principles of North Carolina’s Uniform Principal and Income Act, and the guidelines for allocating certain receipts and charges between trust principal and income.
  • Identify the rules and mechanics of the income taxation of trusts and estates.
  • Name key tax changes affecting IRA and qualified retirement plans and assess the practical implications for CPAs and their clients.
  • Identify key federal and North Carolina state tax changes effective in 2014 and recognize new tax planning opportunities for individuals and businesses arising from recent tax legislation.
  • Assess exposure for potential personal liability for claims in the workplace and apply best practices to avoid personal liability.
  • Determine and prepare a response when the government issues a subpoena for personal information on clients and others.
  • Analyze the legal implications of HIPAA, HITECH, North Carolina Identity Theft Protection Act, and other areas of privacy and protection.
  • Identify standards of value and approaches peculiar to shareholder disputes of closely held business entities.
  • Describe how North Carolina law has changed by reason of the State’s adoption of the Trust Code.
  • Analyze the effects of the JOBS Act on the national and regional level and identify developing securities issues that may impact business clients.

Recommended CPE Credit

8 CPE credits in Accounting, Taxes and Business Law fields of study.
