Seminar: “Navigating Claim Appeals with MA” The last thing a provider wants to experience is having to pay back monies for care provided by their hard-working professionals. CMS contractors and Managed care payors have begun to open up the web of PDPM claims. SNF providers are becoming proficient in understanding this updated system and simultaneously expected to assemble documentation/defend the billing of PDPM claims. As teams are communicating on diagnosis and care delivery for MDS coding, we need to consider if the medical record is fully supportive of the billed level of care. The speaker will address the dissection of the HIPPS codes for responding to contractor HELP letters and denials including nursing classifications, NTA services as well as Functional Assessment reporting. Project management along with coding and clinical opportunities will be discussed.

Speaker: Elisa Bovee, MS OTR/L HealthPRO Heritage VP of Clinical Strategies has worked in the health care environment for 25+ years. Implementing Census + Network development advancements, PDPM methodologies, and serves as a Subject Matter Expert for Chase Consulting.

Buffet Luncheon

Seminar 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM

Seminar: "Today’s Capital Markets: Inflation, Financing Options, and Valuation Trends" Although the Capital Markets are always fluid and dynamic, we are in a particularly unique period as the Federal Reserve has embarked on its most aggressive rate tightening cycle in decades to combat the highest inflation the Unites States has faced since the early 1980’s.  This seminar will explore the fiscal and monetary decisions that spurred inflation, how this is impacting financing options for refinancing/construction/acquisitions, and the effect on seniors housing and skilled nursing valuations.

Speakers: Aaron Becker, Senior Managing Director & Head of Seniors Housing & Healthcare Production at Lument, leading the firm’s national efforts in providing capital funding for the senior living and healthcare sectors. Michael Blackwell, associate director in seniors housing and healthcare production at Lument. He is responsible for the New England market, as well as the state of Oregon, attracting new clients/business and nurturing existing client relationships.

Seminar 2:45 PM – 4:15 PM

Seminar: Utilizing Software to Enhance Nursing Home Operations” This program will illustrate how modern software applications and digital platforms can enhance operational efficiencies in managing nursing homes and other senior living organizations. We will present several examples of state-of-the-art digital software programs that provide all the resources needed to manage the day-to-day operations – clinical, operational, and financial of nursing homes. Everything from finding a template for DPH survey deficiency plan of correction, to a maintenance work order to fix a broken light is catalogued in one easy application for use by the Administrator, DON or other executive with just a click of your mouse. These applications include a feedback loop for delegation of tasks that tie into email to ensure follow through for monitoring compliance in real time.

Seminar 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Seminar: "Launch pad, or burning platform? The future of congregate long-term care" The tragic level of illness and death in congregate long-term care, especially nursing homes, highlighted the structural flaws in the US, and elsewhere. As intense pressure for change builds from the public and regulators, what are the likely outcomes in the infrastructure, staffing, regulatory and financial domains? This program looks at both the demand and supply-side of the congregate long-term care equation, and suggestively addresses the demographic, cultural and economic realities.

Speaker: Irving Stackpole, President of Stackpole & Associates has held leadership positions in clinical and executive roles for globally recognized organizations including Massachusetts General Hospital and Tenet Healthcare, as well as consulting positions with hundreds of clients on five continents.
